Newlands School Rugby Day Results

The Newlands Schools Rugby Day was once again a resounding success with some of the finest rugby schools in the Cape Province getting their opportunity to play on the hallowed turf of Newlands.

DF Malan played Primrose RFC and many expected this to be a big mismatch with DF Malan cruising to a victory. However they had to work extremely hard and only sealed the game in the final minutes. Final score: DF Malan 10  Primrose 0

Paarl Boys took on Wynberg in the next match and this proved to be a somewhat one side affair with the mighty Boishaai too strong for Wynberg. Boishaai led 15-0 at the break and never allowed Wynberg into the game after that. Final score: Paarl Boys 20 Wynberg 5

SACS probably had the task of facing the most powerful team on the day in Paarl Gym and they gamely took the match to the Gimmies. However it was going to be two tries to nothing that would finally separate the two team with Gimmies running home victors 10-0.

The final two match of the Newlands School Rugby Day were played in pretty heavy rain at times making condition underfoot a little tricky. However they were enthralling encounters with both matches ending in a hard fought draw.

Firstly it is rare that a rugby match is played and the scoreboard is untouched for the entire match but that is what the fans witnessed who watched the Rondebosch and Tygerberg match. The defence on both sides was tenacious and the final score remain the same as at the start of the match : 0-0.

Paul Roos and Bishops end the evening of rugby in an enthralling match. Both teams slugged it out for the full 60 minutes and at the final whistle there was nothing to separate the two teams. Two tries a piece and the final score rested at 10-10.

The Boishaai team and school were awarded the best supporters award and the entire evening suggested that The Cape can look forward to some excellent school rugby this season. .
