Fighting for the Beeld Trophy

After the weekend's Beeld Trophy semi-finals for medium and small schools in the Lions region is it the first teams of Randburg, Bekker and Trinity House that progress to the competition’s next round.

Randburg, in icy conditions beat Linden on the Florida High School’s field 33-20, while Bekker was too strong for the President team, running away with the victory 24-15.

In the last U19 match of the day, Trinity House enjoyed an overwhelming 45-17 victory against College Maragon.

Randburg's kicking general, Harry van Staden, read the windy conditions very well and his tactical kicking ensured that his team remained on the attack for the majority of the match.
Marx with his try got the scoreboard moving for Randburg which also saw Renier Joubert and Briel Gerber (tries) along with Jacques Hart (penalty and conversions) , allowing the men in blue to lead 28-0 at halftime.

Linden did wake up in the second half and suddenly they were amongst the tries with Jean Kleyn, Tyron Gardner, Reinhardt van Lelyveld and Diederick du Plessis all crossing the line to help shrink Randburg’s lead.

But the Randburger Zander van der Zandt, had the final say in the match when he went over to score a five pointer and so deliver the win for his side.

In the Bekker and President's clash was it President’s Hein Benardie’s boot which got the scoreboard ticking over. However Bekker quickly and ruthlessly retaliated in the form of a brilliant break and try by flyhalf Michael Foster-Jones, which Foster-Jones went on to convert.

The score in the second half resembled a rollercoaster with both teams enjoying the lead for brief moments, but Bekker remained calm and especially thanks to their point’s machine, Foster-Jones, were able to run out victors at the end of play.

The Maragon v Trinity House match was a bitterly fought match especially in the first half and the teams were pretty evenly matched. However the proverbial dam win broke in the second half for Maragon who went down to a superior Trinty House team.Matthew
Feinstein (conversions) and Matthew Gouldie,
James Marais and Kyle Stein (tries) assured that Trinity achieved a great victory.
