Hockey: U16 Top Schools Tournament for Boys & Girls

The under 16 Top Schools Ranking for boys and girls has been going for 3 months and has enjoyed tremendous support. Thanks for your contributions to date. We are very excited to see the caliber of schools that are participating and to see how tight the competition is at the top.

 

With a few weeks to go plenty of teams can still qualify for the tournament to take top honors for their school - this will give you major bragging rights for 12 months!

The aim of this communication is to encourage everybody to keep on sending the scores for ranking purposes and to give a brief outline of the intended tournament format and other features.

The Program

Venue: Paarl Gymnasium High School – Paarl Western Cape. All games to be hosted at the same venue;
Dates: 

9 - 11 August 2018 [Arrive 8th& depart 12th]

Tournament Format: 2 x 20 minute halveson a point accumulation basis – tournament rules will be shared with the final teams and will be available on the tournament communication platform & media.
Winners: Semifinals and finals to be played on the last day. There will be prizes for the top 3 teams.
Touring Team: One girlteam and one boy team, each consisting of 15 players will be selected after the tournament for an international tour to the Netherlands. Details of the tour will be made available on the tournament website.
Hospitality village: A hospitality area will be erected next to the playing area with plenty of entertainment and beverage stalls.
Accommodation - teams: All teams, their managers & coaches will stay at the school premises where all the games will take place. All meals will be included in the tournament costs
Accommodation – parents: All parent are encouraged to attend the tournament and tour the winelands with all its variety of entertainment and tourist attractions. Details can be provided on request.


Tournament costs: The tournament cost will be included in the invite letter sent to the top 10 schools. Schools are encouraged to approach local sponsors. The final day of the tournament will be streamed live giving good coverage to sponsors. Marketing and branding opportunities are also available at the tournament. The tournament organizer will also provide a support letter that can be presented to sponsors.  

Tournament app:
A tournament app will be made available to all touring players, parents, coaches and managers in order to track the fixtures, results and tournament progress.
Medical facilities: A team of physio therapists will be available during the tournament to all players. There is also a Mediclinic and Medicross in close proximity of the venue in case of emergencies.
School Sports Live: The last day of the tournament will be streamed live via the SSL website. A copy of the recording will be available on the SSL website post the event.

What you need to keep on doing:

Remember:

  • The top 10 teams as per rankings on 31 May 2018 will be invited to compete in the Tournament;
  • Official Rankings of SA School Sports Magazine ONLINE will be used to invite teams.
  • The scores of ALL games played since 1 January 2018 must be submitted to SA School Sports Magazine, to qualify. Proof of such must be available on request.
  • Only teams ranked no 1-10 on the SA School Sports Magazine ranking as mentioned above, automatically qualify to be invited. This is subject to all Tournament criteria being adhered to.
  • Should any of the mentioned 10 teams not be able to participate, the 11th team etc. automatically qualify to be invited.
  • The Tournament Committee has the discretion to invite any 2 other teams to participate in the Tournament. No correspondence will be entered into regarding this aspect and theirdecision will be regarded as final.
  • A team may have a maximum of 16 players.
