The purpose of the tournament was to enable the top u/16 teams (12 girls teams and 12 boys teams) from the SA Schools Sports rankings (www.saschoolsports.co.za ) to compete against each other, as well as to improve the skills of the players. Paarl showed its beauty with the perfect weather and views matched by the fantastic hockey that was played.
After a very good year, Hershel came into the tournament as Girls Teams' favorites. With the top teams participating it was always going to be a hotly contested affair. In the end it was Menlopark and Durban GC that made it to the final. Both teams held their nerve and forced a 0-0 result after some well defended attempts at goal. It came down to a penalty shootout. With pinpoint accuracy and nerves of steel Menlo converted their first three showdowns. DGC could only match two of the three showdowns. Menlo held their cool and scored a fourth goal giving them a 4-2 win over DGC and the much-coveted Top School Hockey title. Well done Menlo!
