Wynberg have all but clinched the No.1 spot this year with another convincing performance this time against SACS who were clobbered by 182 runs. David Beddingham struck a superb 76 and there was also a supportive 53* by Jason Smith to set SACS a total of 242/8. However Smith who claimed 5/11 rocked the SACS batting lineup and SACS were soon bundled out for a paltry 60 runs.
Bishops also have a memorable victory over Boishaai in what turned out to be a low scoring affair. Bishops posted a mere 130 runs and Boishaai would have expected to get there without too much stress. However Digby Harding snatched 4/43 and along with Ryan Julius who got 3/31 stunted Paarl Boy’s chances as they were finally bowled out for 106 runs. Amazingly Bishop’s Digby Harding has taken 80 wickets this year and still was overlooked for the WP U19A side?
Pretoria Boy’s hosted their neighbors’ Affies in what was literally the clash in the home of the Titans. Affies who had previously beaten PBHS by 49 runs earlier this year would have been hoping for a repeat performance but they seemed to struggle from the start on a flat track that gave little assistance to the bowlers. Posting a respectable 251/6 with Uli Boezaart striking a great 103 not out it appeared like a sizable enough total. However Pretoria Boy’s went about overhauling the total with a certain degree of professionalism and had reached 129/3 after 25 overs and were well on their way to the victory. Led by their mercurial captain Aiden Markram who struck an superb century Pretoria Boy’s completed a well deserved win over Affies by 5 wickets.
Maritzburg College finally managed to play some cricket after 5 weekends of rain and they were in great form easily putting away St.Charles College. A fine 84 by Josh Rencken helped College end on 236/7 in their 50 overs. To be fair SCC attacked the total with a measure of commitment and there was a glimmer of hope that an upset was on the cards in the early stages, however Tim Guise-Brown had one of the spells of his life claiming three wickets in a maiden over and finishing with figures of 5/7 to help St.Charles collapse to 156 all out and Maritzburg College won by 80 runs.
