Athletics: Marlow Tops At Cradock Meet

Marlow athletes where in destructive form at the Cradock District Athletics meeting where they ran away with most of the top prizes.

Devron AdamsMarlow have placed a huge importance on their athletics in order to ensure a balance between the larger sporting codes that the school offers and this week’s achievements clearly show they are reaping the rewards.

The “Wolramme” were able to field a team of nearly a hundred boys in their athletic team, which is no mean feat considering they only have 250 boys in the school! Talk about a healthy interest in this individual sport!

In the nearly seventy events which the Marlow boys entered, a total of 86 medals went the way of the Wolramme of which 37 were gold!

Although there was no Victor Ludorum awards at this meeting, Devron Adams from Marlow, scored the most points in his three events on the day.

These points are calculated from the official APE tables which are nationally recognized. Devron as a fourteen old athlete, kept the crowd on their feet when he jumped a massive 6.30 meters in the long-jump!

Not content with that,  Devron recorded excellent times in the 100m and 200m sprints with times of 11.7 and 23.89 seconds respectively.

Marlow’s best field athlete of the day was Faan Greyling who snatched the gold medals in the hammer throw, shot put and discus for U17 Boys.

Besides individual highlights Marlow as a team were unstoppable. The Wolramme ended the day with a huge total of 58 924 points with their nearest competitor way back on 29 805 points.

Marlow are blessed with a number of young athletes which should see them looking forward to many successful Athletics meetings in the years to come.
